Workshops and Trainings
Get practical, hands-on training in our workshops taught by successful small business owners. We address entrepreneurial needs from initial idea development to strategic business growth. Workshops range from one hour to topics covered over multiple days.

These workshops help students develop essential business skills in a hands-on, learning environment. Experienced small business owners teach all workshops and attendees can schedule consultations to implement lessons learned.

eBay Foundation Techquity Orientation

The eBay Foundation, in partnership with Renaissance/Bayview Business Resource Center, offers 2007 Techquity awards. The Techquity program assists low and moderate income micro-entrepreneurs in purchasing computers and/or related technology that can allow business owners to use the Internet as part of an integrated business expansion strategy.

If you are an aspiring, first time business owner, learn about a step-by-step approach into business including the basic first steps, testing your idea, basic research, and using outside resources to get you started.

What's Cooking? Basic Tips to Starting a Food Business I

This workshop covers the following topics and will provide you with basic steps you need to take to become a food entrepreneur: Products and Product line, Food Marketing Techniques, Business Models, Legal and Licensing issues and ingredients' suppliers. Information on the ever growing natural food industry will be woven throughout the class.

What's Cooking? Basic Tips to Starting a Food Business II

This workshop covers the following topics with particular emphasis on the specifics on manufacturing, logistics, cost analysis, cash flows and government regulations.

TECHNOLOGY WORKSHOPS

All technology workshops are taught in the Bayview Business Computer Lab with HP computers and equipment - one for each student. Each workshop or class gives each student an opportunity to experience, practice and then apply a new computer skill. Additional lab hours are available for practice and continued instruction. Some classes have fee. All fees must be paid PRIOR to the day of class. All classes are on a first come first serve basis and payment guarantees your spot.


Finance: Tracking Your Expenses

Students will use Excel to track and project expenses. The class will show how to create formulas and format data for printing.

Introduction to QuickBooks Series

$50 FOR THE SERIES OF THREE

Join us for this intensive overview of the basics of QuickBooks. The class meets for three consecutive three hour classes. In this hands-on workshop you will learn how to set up a company in QuickBooks, how to select the best version of QuickBooks for your business, how to manage all regular ongoing bookkeeping tasks, and also how to customize and optimize QuickBooks for your own use. Everyone will be assigned a computer, and will use the program throughout the course. Sign up today, and learn how to use QuickBooks correctly and effectively right from the start!

Tracking Inventory in QuickBooks

$5 Fee For Class

This workshop follows the QuickBooks Pro Series. You will learn about the pros and cons of tracking inventory in QuickBooks, including a discussion about which version of QuickBooks will be right for your business.
Prerequisite: Introduction to QuickBooks

Technology 201 and 202

This introductory workshop is for first-time computer users and covers Word, Excel and accessing the Internet. Entrepreneurs will learn about common programs and how to create, save and edit business correspondence, do a simple financial chart and/or access the Internet.

Website Planning

$5 FOR THE CLASS

Why do you need a website? Come to this workshop and learn how to think about, plan for, build, maintain, and promote your company's website.

Web Optimization

$5 FOR THE CLASS

Learn how to improve your existing website. You will learn how to write for the web, the tricks to use and the mistakes to avoid in making your website a powerful part of your marketing collateral.
Prerequisite: Web Planning
