12 Week Business Planning class (SoMa)

LAUNCH OR GROW YOUR BUSINESS WITH A SOLID PLAN FOR SUCCESS!
Our intensive, 12-week Business Planning Class covers the essential aspects of starting and running a small business, and it will guide you in how to write a practical and comprehensive business plan. The marketing, management and finance curricula is intentionally integrated so that you develop your knowledge in all areas as you go through the course – matching the reality of life as a small business owner!
You will complete the class with a comprehensive business plan that includes:
- A clear marketing plan for your business based on solid market research and marketing strategies
- A practical management plan for your business with personnel/professional support options and clear operational procedures
- Well-developed financial statements with detailed footnotes on all assumptions
- An analysis of business risks and future plans for growth, and
- An implementation plan for the business with specific timelines and due dates
This class is for entrepreneurs who have a focused idea and have started to sell goods or services, or small business owners who are already in business and want to address some gaps and/or grow their business. Having relevant industry experience and training (such as internships & apprenticeships) will also be helpful.
When: Class meets every Tuesday and Thursday from 6:00pm to 9:00pm.
The course requires your commitment and willingness to attend all classes, do all written assignments and participate fully in classroom discussions and small group sessions throughout the 12-week duration. There will be an additional two weeks to complete and submit your business plan. Basic proficiency with Excel spreadsheets is necessary for the course.
Cost: $1000 (Limited Scholarships Available up to 50%, dependent on proof of household income level. Installment payment plan also available).

Application: $40 application fee required (Non-refundable, but if accepted into class, will be applied towards full tuition).

Payment: You must register and pay the application fee. Tuition will be collected after being accepted into the class and financial assistance considerations have been made. In addition, we also allow for installment payment plans of tuition.

Business Planning & Management
Paul Terry is principal of Paul Terry & Associates, which provides business management consulting and entrepreneurship training to small business owners and specializes in helping entrepreneurs through business transitions. Paul has also owned two retail food businesses, a wholesale distributing business, and a computer training company. Paul coordinates the Business Planning Class, teaching the business planning and management classes. Paul has designed and taught classes at Renaissance for 25+ years.
Claudio Miranda is an Internet veteran with over 10 years of experience in online marketing and e-commerce. He is co-founder of three industry-leading LOHAS brands: Organic Bouquet, Organic Style, and Organic Style Magazine. As an internet consultant and agency executive he has developed and managed e-business strategies for specialty retailers to Fortune 1000 brands. Claudio is a graduate of UC Berkeley and a former adjust professor at Dominican University Green MBA.
Kristin Glass has over 15 years of experience working in a managerial capacity at various top-rated Bay Area restaurants. She has extensive restaurant start-up and operations experience, including developing operational systems, cultivating a company culture and service standards, and analyzing and responding to financial realities. Kristin has a strong background in accounting and provides financial analysis for many small businesses. Kristin is a graduate of UC Berkeley and the Renaissance Business Planning Class.
The Business Planning Class also includes many Renaissance graduates who come back as guest instructors and volunteer coaches. We also have experts in legal issues, insurance and other small business owners who share their invaluable on-the-ground experience.
NOTE: Registering for this event does not guarantee your placement in the class. In order to be considered for the Business Planning class, please complete the registration process and payment of application fee. You will then receive an automated email with instructions on how to download the application document. We highly recommend that all applicants attend an Orientation in order to learn more about the criteria for being accepted into the class.
