Ernest East wanted a way to uplift people! He was not doing that as a bus driver, despite singing while he worked. When his lady friend baked him a pineapple-upside-down cake, he realized his calling.
Ernest comes from a large southern family, where eating dinner together was a nightly tradition. He remembers tasty home-cooked meals followed by delicious desserts, all prepared with real, natural ingredients.
Ernest took Renaissance's Business Planning class and workshops, worked with marketing and finance consultants, and received a micro-grant to purchase a computer to manage the business. With support from Renaissance, Ernest has expanded sales of his mostly organic pies from one small store to Mollie Stone's, Andronico's, The Good Life Grocery and local restaurants, continues to bake in a San Francisco commercial kitchen, and now employees six part-time employees.
Ernest was the recipient of Renaissance's 2008 Angela Cain Memorial Award.
Congratulations Ernest East and Miz Lynn's Pies!
