General Information

We are seeking a Development Director who is eager to lead and expand fundraising for a healthy and growing $6.5M nonprofit. At Renaissance Entrepreneurship Center, we help lower-income individuals start and grow their own businesses that result in financial independence for themselves and their families. This is a full-time, hybrid remote position based in our SF office, reporting to the CEO, and managing two staff. Salary is $100,000 – $125,000.

Each year, Renaissance serves over 2,500 individuals who reflect the diversity of the Bay Area: 90% are lower-income, 81% are women, 75% are people of color. Founded in 1985, we have grown to five Bay Area Centers and off-site programs that help our participants start their own micro-enterprises and become financially self-sufficient. The Development Director works closely with the CEO to set short- and long-term fundraising goals and creates/implements plans to achieve those goals. The Development Director leads Board and volunteer fundraising committees, manages two Development staff, and related contractors.

Summary of Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement and manage all fundraising activities to maintain and grow a strong and diversified funding base aligned with Renaissance’s goals.
  • Write and/or manage grants, proposals, and reports for private, corporate, and state/local government funders.
    Identify, prioritize, and pursue new funding opportunities, starting with grants from local and state government agencies, but also corporations, foundations, and potential major gift donors.
  • Oversee individual giving and annual campaign. Identify, cultivate, and solicit major gifts in collaboration with the CEO.
  • Lead the execution of the annual fundraising event; develop/implement smaller donor cultivation events throughout the year.
  • Ensure sound administration of development activities, including: the development calendar, Salesforce database, record keeping, grant renewals, grant reporting, and donor communications.
  • Supervise two development staff and various contractors.
  • Provide leadership to board and volunteer fundraising committees.
  • Work with marketing personnel to promote Renaissance externally.
  • Manage, monitor, and report on goals and progress related to budget and fundraising activities/outcomes.

Summary of Key Qualifications

  • Successful experience grant writing for a wide range of funders, including state/local government.
  • Experience planning and implementing individual donor campaigns, including identification and cultivation of major gift donors.
  • Experience planning successful events for a variety of audiences and development objectives is preferred.
  • Excellent writing skills, preferably with experience writing communications for a range of channels, audiences, and purposes.
  • Excellent oral communication skills, with ability to cultivate connection in-person, over the phone, and via video.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously while maintaining organization and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and make both strategic and tactical decisions with sensitivity to stakeholder impact.
  • Proficiency with donor management software or equivalent. Proficiency with Microsoft Office preferred.
  • Ability to meet with donors and visit local Bay Area program sites routinely.
  • Experience leading teams and/or managing staff and contractors preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent preferred.
