GoDaddy and the Renaissance Center are teaming up to expand education on digital presence to local entrepreneurs through GoDaddy’s GoCommunities program. This virtual course will focus on a variety of topics relating to online business such as branding, websites, social media and more.
Workshop Overview: GoDaddy has been teaching a series of workshops to under-served small business owners in markets all over the U.S. Each workshop will be delivered virtually with prerecorded content from a GoDaddy expert. Each workshop will have a worksheet or exercise to accompany the message and provide working time for each participant to understand the subject. Lastly, every participant will have a takeaway or “homework” to continue to build on their previous knowledge. Videos will be released at the beginning of the week and can be viewed anytime of the day/week from the convenience of your own home.
Please note: Signing up for this workshop after February 15th may result in a slower matching process with a mentor. Registration closes March 1.
Criteria to participate in the program:
- Must be in business (ie. you are actively selling products or services)
- Must have basic computer knowledge and able to navigate the web
- Must be willing and eager to learn and able to commit to all courses in the program
- Students are highly encouraged to attend an Orientation before registering for this course
- Not required but suggested, a GoDaddy account. It’s free to set up and if you decide to use GoDaddy products in the course, they will be at no cost to you. If you don’t have an account, head to GoDaddy.com, click ‘log in’ and then follow the steps to create and account. Keep your account number handy for the program.
Expectations for participants:
- Must fully participate in the program throughout the 6-weeks
- Watch the videos and complete assignment during the weeks that they are assigned
- Communicate in a timely fashion with your assigned GoDaddy mentor
- Attend the Networking & Graduation events
- For those who do not yet have a website and need to build one before the class, we recommend using GoCentral’s website builder. It’s a free and easy way to get started!
Week 1: Online marketplace and build an effective website (Introductory class)
Description: This workshop will focus on the importance of having a website and the majority of the time will be spent with participants in creating a website.
Facilitator goals: Review the content creation worksheet, how this involves search and showing up on Google, Purchase GoCentral with in-kind promo code in each participants GoDaddy account, Assist each participant in building their website.Exercises/worksheets: Content creation worksheet to be used and work off throughout the session
Homework: Complete the site for review at the next session
Participant skill set takeaway: Be able to build and manage their own GoCentral website
Week 2: How to increase your sales online with e-commerce
Description: E-commerce 101 explores creating an online store and selling products and services beyond your brick and mortar business.
Facilitator Goals: Introduce the benefits of having an online store and how this can increase profits, Explain the 4 components of an online store: website, product info, shopping cart + payment and order fulfillment, Value of GoDaddy online store – for participants attending this workshop if they are ready to start, we will provide online store at no cost (TIP – participants should ALL already have a website prior to attending this class), Assist in purchasing and navigating the online store product
Exercise/worksheet: Worksheet on content creation for product descriptions, keywords and images for
Homework: Participants should take content creation worksheet to begin to develop their online store
Participate skill takeaway: Ability to build and maintain their online store
Week 3: Social Media
Description: Social media is a power player in the game of search engine optimization. This workshop will cover how to create shareable and relevant content, showcase social feeds and connect with customers through social media.
Facilitator Goals: Introduce how social media can help market your business, Introduce how social media can help connect with customers, How to add social media buttons to your website, Defining Facebook, Pinterest and Instagram and how each one can uniquely assist in promoting your business.
Exercise/worksheet: creating shareable content exercise. Drafting a content creation worksheet for
future social media posts
Homework: Complete content creation worksheet for social media posts. Participate skill takeaway: draft social media posts and be comfortable with posting relevant content
Week 4: Email Marketing
Email marketing is almost as old as email itself, and it’s still one of the most efficient, effective and affordable ways to stay connected with your customers. Email marketing boasts the strongest return on investment among all digital channels.
Facilitator Goals: Introduce email marketing and how it can help a business, Best practices for email marketing (get consent, put yourself in your customers’ shoes, stay relevant).
Exercise/worksheet: Content creation worksheet on creating relevant content. Worksheet will also include a timeline to fill in for each customer to fill in their timeline of launching email marketing communication.
Homework: Draft email marketing communication and complete timeline. Participate skill takeaway: Comfortable with email marketing and understanding of how to create relevant content.
Week 5: Get found online: Search Engine Optimization
Description: This session will explore how SEO will help drive your message, reach more customers and direct people to your website. This workshop will help participants understand how their website content can boost their search rankings on Google and other sites. This workshop will also explore additional SEO options (paid, social media, pay per click).
Facilitator Goals: Explain SEO and how it works, Explain how website content will help boost your search rankings, Break down all SEO options and define each option so that customers can understand what they should use.
Exercise/worksheet: Key words, meta tags, SEO content creation. Worksheet to assist participants in defining their key words based on their business and location.
Homework: Complete content creation worksheet and update website based on SEO best practices
Participate skill takeaway: Have a solid understanding of how they can improve and update their
website content to be more searchable
