Renaissance Entrepreneurship Center seeks a Finance Director who will play a key leadership role in all financial administration matters within the organization: financial leadership, financial analysis, administration and treasury activities. Renaissance has a diverse funding pool, including fee for services, approximately 25 government grants (CDBG/HUD, US SBA, State of CA, etc.), grants and contributions. Renaissance’s 2021 budget is $5.3M and we require an A133 single audit.

We have been building better communities for 35 years by helping lower income women and men start and grow their own businesses, transforming the lives of their owners and creating sustainable jobs, economic vitality, and vibrant neighborhoods. Renaissance owns and operates our own building in San Francisco’s South of Market (SOMA) community, which is the site of our headquarters and home to over 35 small business tenants. We operate additional program sites (Richmond, San Francisco’s Bayview District, East Palo Alto and an upcoming site in South San Francisco) and provide services throughout the Bay Area.
Note: During the current coronavirus pandemic, Renaissance is adhering to health and safety social distance protocols; all staff are currently working from home. As protocols are adjusted and the pandemic evolves, this position will be primarily based in San Francisco, California.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Renaissance’s Finance Director plays a key leadership role in all financial administration matters within the organization.
- Provide guidance to Program Directors for the successful financial administration of their sites and programs
- Participate in strategic planning influencing the future course of the organization
- Lead a team of financial representatives that includes one employee from each program site
- Participate in leadership meetings with CEO, Program Directors and other leadership staff
- Lead the annual financial planning process including development of the annual organization budget
- Lead collaboration and coordination between finance and development departments and HR department
- Guide and direct the organization’s financial administration
- Prepare financial reports for the CEO, Managing Director, Board of Directors and program staff; complete financial analysis including variance reporting; ensure financial information flow is smooth and coordinated
- Lead financial management of approximately 25 government grants (CDBG/HUD, SBA, State of CA, etc.), comply with government grant reporting processes including on-line monthly and quarterly reporting systems, maintain government-compliant timesheets
- Lead organization’s annual audit, working closely with CPA firm and audit committee of the board in audit execution
- Work with CPA firm to prepare and submit the organization’s 990 and other tax-related forms
- Prepare program budgets and financial grant reports for government, corporate, and foundation funders
- Create, maintain and improve financial and operational policies and procedures to continuously improve Renaissance’s financial administration and to ensure compliance with funder requirements
- Develop new financial tools and models to address opportunities and challenges
Oversee and Conduct Financial Administration and Treasury Activities Including:
- Support program teams in proper budgeting and staff allocation across programs and grants; execute payroll allocation based on timekeeping
- Accounts payable and receivable functions (invoicing of building tenants)
- Processing AP (approximately 300 payments per month)
- Monitoring of organization’s investments under guidance of CEO and Board
- Booking/release of temporarily restricted net assets
- Monthly bank account reconciliations
- Monthly journal entries including reconciliation of prepaid expenses and payroll accrual
- Coding revenue and expenses to ensure they are associated with the appropriate cost centers
- Monitor and maintain Renaissance’s fixed assets schedule
- Solid experience and understanding of accounting and financial planning for nonprofits.
- At least 5 years of increasingly-responsible financial management experience; ideally experience in federal government contracts and grants, tenant invoicing, building ownership
- Strategic thinker with sound technical skills, analytic ability, positive orientation to problem solving and experience working effectively with leadership and staff
- Capacity to inspire and communicate well with colleagues; approachability for both finance- and non-finance colleagues
- Proficiency in Sage Intacct or other similar accounting software, Bill.com, Excel and other Microsoft Office applications
- BA in Accounting or equivalent supervisory and practical experience; MBA or CPA preferred
