Challenge

Tracy Phillips, a Renaissance client and recovered addict of more than 10 years, fulfilled her lifelong dream of becoming a full-time entrepreneur in 2019 when she opened Confetti This Lifestyle Boutique in San Pablo, CA, selling bath and body products, accessories and clothing. Tracy gained experience by creating her own bath products and selling them at the Antioch Flea Market. “I couldn’t believe how fast my booth got empty!” Tracy said. Her business grew rapidly and she became overwhelmed when her inventory took over her apartment.

Result

Tracy found Renaissance in Richmond and took our Start Smart and Business Prep training classes which helped her define her business model, business goals and pricing. In 2019 Tracy was named Renaissance’s Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year based on her drive and story of resilience. With a new storefront and a determined mindset, 2020 looked to be a year for her business to really take off. Tragically, Tracy’s sales were devastated by the pandemic. In 2020, Tracy attended Renaissance’s online workshops in marketing, pivoting, and empowerment to help her identify ways to continue her business. In January 2021, Tracy received a grant from the Renaissance Contra Costa County Microenterprise Relief Fund to help buy Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), pay her business rent, and support her marketing efforts to sell online. With Renaissance’s support, Tracy is rebuilding her business. She has added new clothing and fashion accessories to sell at her store for pick up and is offering creative online workshops including pillow making and prom dress design.
