Space Chemp Clothing Co. is a t-shirt business started by single father Amadi Mobley.
When the pandemic began, Bay Area native Amadi Mobley decided to use the year of 2020 as an opportunity to become an entrepreneur. As a single father of four children, his resilience spread to starting his own t-shirt business, Space Chemp Clothing Co. He was in search of resources to grow his business.
Amadi enrolled in Renaissance's Start Smart series. Our Start Smart course helped Amadi test the feasibility of his idea and develop foundational business skills. In addition, he was introduced into the creation of a business plan and received a DUNS for Space Chemp Clothing Co. The year of 2020 was filled with tangible steps to grow his business, launching his digital presence through an Instagram Business account as a tool for e-commerce. Continuing this growth, Amadi is also a recent recipient of a $1,500 CDBG Grant exclusively for Oakland entrepreneurs. With the support of our team, he was able to purchase digital supplies to begin fulfilling his own design needs. He was filled with excitement when utilizing this new tool for his business since he no longer had to go to a 3rd party vendor. As he continues to work with Dorian Johnson at Renaissance, he looks forward to starting up an official website for his brand as well as an official business license.
